BARNARD CASTLE lies 10 miles further down the Tees valley and has only recently acquired Walkers are Welcome status.  Their website gives much information about the area and local walks in particular.

KIRKBY STEPHEN at the southern end of the Eden Valley was the first Walkers are Welcome town in the area.  There is a variety of walking in the area including Wainwright’s Coast-to-Coast route.

Other organizations organizing guided walks include:

WEARDALE TUESDAY WALKERS who organize walks the first and third Tuesdays of every month.  Their website also contains a Guided Walks Diary for Weardale.
