Epiacum and the Pennine Way Route Details

This linear walk of approx 5 miles along the Pennine Way from Lintley Halt to Alston is based on the South Tynedale Railway Walk – Pennine Way & Whitley Castle

Start from Lintley car park (NY687511)

Route: Follow the Pennine Way through several fields and over several stiles until you reach the lane blow the Wesleyan chapel at Kirkhaugh. Here turn left down the lane then take the sign-posted track on the right. Follow this through several fields, below Dyke House and up to the road near Castle Nook. Cross the road with care then take the path through the woods and to Epiacum. After looking round the site continue along the Pennine Way to the footbridge at Gilderdale Burn. The path now climbs to meet the end of a walled lane then down to meet the road at Harbut Law. Walk a short distance along the road then cross with care and take the track down to Harbut Lodge. After going round Harbut Lodge the path heads for Alston emerging near the War Memorial at the road junction. Turn left and return to the Railway Station.
