The Source of the South Tyne River
By car from Alston through Garrigill then a further two miles to the end of the road south of Hill House. Cross the cattle grid then follow the track . This soon joins the South Tyne Trail which goes all the way to the source. The original plan was to return from here along the same route and then to the Cumberland for some seasonal fare but the weather was so good that it was decided to continue along to the river Tees and Moor House before returning.
