On a pleasant, but cold, November morning four hardy souls met at the Cumberland before driving the few miles to the start of the walk at Hartside.
The cafe car park was virtually deserted as we headed off towards Hartside Heights.
After admiring the views back towards the Lake District we turned right over the stile and headed eastwards along the ridge towards
Benty hill from where our next destination Scarberry Hill was clearly visible
Looking back we had a good view of the north-bound ridge to Black Fell, at 664m the highest point in the Pennines north of Hartside
Looking southwards down Black Burn towards Cross Fell
The descent down Horse Edge
and along the walled path eventually brought us to the Wardway and a view of Alston, which we reached after roughly three hours.
