A walk of approx. 10.25 miles partly along the Pennine Way and partly across open moorland
Start from the village green in Garrigill where there is ample parking
Starting from the village green in Garrigill take the road out of the village in a south-easterly direction as far as Gatehead. Here turn right and follow the Pennine Way up to Black Band. Here the path levels out slightly and goes through a gate. When the path begins to drop down slightly in to a dip (NY726389) take the path to the right and go through a gate in the fence. If you miss the path you will come to a gate across the Pennine Way path. In this case turn right and follow the fence to the afore-mentioned path and gate. The trig point on Rotherhope Fell should be visible approximately a little over a kilometer away. Follow the path in this general direction until it veers away to the left. At this stage head across the open moorland making for the gate in the fence just below the trig point (NY791394). From the trig point keep to the top of the ridge and make for the summit of Hound Hill from where you should see a gate in the fence below. Make for this then head down towards a sheepfold then on to Greencastle Tarn. On reaching the Greencastle path turn right on to this and follow this all the way back to Blackburn Bridge at Leadgate. Cross the road and take the path down to the footbridge over the South Tyne river. Do not cross the footbridge but turn right and follow the path alongside the river all the way back to Garrigill.
