A circular walk of approx. 3.5 miles along the South Tyne Valley from Alston to Bleagate and back.
Start from near the Spar supermarket where there is ample parking.
From the supermarket take the Penrith road then shortly before the bridge over the river take the signposted Pennine Way path up past the Youth Hostel. The Pennine Way/South Tyne Trail is now clearly signposted all the way to Bleagate. On reaching Bleagate go over a style on your left and take the road out of the farm. At the junction with the road down to High Nest go straight across and take the signposted path through the field. Follow this down and through Nattrass Gill. Continue on past Annat Walls and on reaching the outskirts of Alston turn left and walk through the cemetery and back past the Youth Hostel to the supermarket.
